Primary Purpose:
To perform skilled work on various offset/digital presses, duplicating, and bindery equipment in a production environment. To assist in meeting the printing needs of the district in an economic and expeditious manner.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school graduate or GED equivalency preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Basic Math Skills
- Demonstrate willingness and ability to follow instructions
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Exhibit effective written and oral communication skills and ability to work with people
- Able to function in a demanding/high pressure environment
- Able to troubleshoot equipment and process issues
Experience:
- Print production and bindery equipment experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Printing Services
- Complete work assigned in a prompt and efficient manner and in accordance with accepted methods and policies of the Printing Services Department.
- Apply knowledge of different paper types, their characteristics and how they affect the final print.
- Understand different types of inks, their properties and suitable substrates for various printing applications.
- Troubleshoot equipment outlined in equipment manuals and department policies and procedures.
- Implement and maintain quality control mesures to ensure consistent and high-quality print.
- Operate and maintain equipment in a safe and efficient manner by following all safety rules and procedures.
- Read and review all service manuals and other printed matter necessary for the safe operation and maintenance of the equipment.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures.
- Perform skilled work on various offset/digital presses, duplicating ancillary bindery equipment in a production environment (see equipment used below).
- Perform mechanical adjustments on presses and bindery equipment.
- Operates paper cutter, folding machine and attachments, number machine, slitter/scorer, and perforating machines, automatic collator, and attachments-on-line and off-line; offline-stitcher, shrink-wrap machine and flatbed printer.
- Understands proper press chemicals and inks.
- Make adjustments as needed to ensure clear, legible images are placed with consistent quality. Add toners, mixes and dilutes inks and chemicals as needed.
- Prepare match prints for quality checks, perform rule-out on printed sheets for position accuracy and meet daily print and bindery production levels in accordance to established department production levels.
- Adhere to inventory controls, keep supply of paper stocks in order.
- Adhere to internal production controls and reporting structures.
- Perform responsible maintenance on equipment such as lubrication, replacement of small parts, cleaning and minor adjustments to rollers and other small moving parts.
- Perform equipment clean-up and keep immediate work area neat and orderly.
- Uses pallet truck to carry pallets with blank and printed paper from press area to bindery.
- Uses an ergo-lift in the bindery area for material handling and lifting according to department policies and procedures.
- Perform overtime when required to meet the printing needs of the district. The supervisor will give a reasonable notice of one week when possible; shorter notice if there are emergency district needs.

- Take all safety precautions related to job and reports any hazardous situations.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Comply with policies established by local board policy and comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Printing equipment: one & two color small format offset presses (no larger than 13x19); digital production press and camera reproduction devices.
Bindery equipment: cutters, folding machines, numbering machine, drilling machine, laminating machine, GBC and Spiraling machines, shrink wrapping machine, counter, perfect binder, and other ancillary equipment to produce the final product. Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Standing, walking, twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, carrying, crawling, pushing, pulling, and reaching frequently
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; climbing stairs, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Ability to lift and reach over head up to 50 lbs
Carrying: 50 lbs. frequently and over 50 lbs. occasionally
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel. Working in temperatures that range from 0o - 100o F. Works with and around pressroom chemicals.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
Vision and Hearing: Moderate to maximum

Pay Grade: MT02
2024-2025 Salary Range Min. $13.50 Mid. $16.12 Max. $18.74 (Based on previous experience)
2025-2026 Salary schedule with 3% of midpoint increase approved by the Board. Salary schedule soon to be released.
Salary is based on working the full contract of ____ days; incomplete contracts (working less days) would be less compensation.
